Workstations

Running Customer Logic Vet on a workstation requires a minimum of:

  • A Microsoft Operating System and computer capable of running .Net Framework 4.0; see: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/8z6watww.aspx (this basically means Windows XP or higher, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8 in 32bit or 64bit are all fine)
  • Hardware meeting the following specifications:

  • Customer Logic has its own Word Processor and basic Spread Sheet tools built in, but Microsoft Office is useful for complex mail merges and data analysis. Microsoft Office is not a requirement.

Server

Customer Logic Vet requires Microsoft SQL Server 2008, 2008R2 or 2012 to run. Microsoft provides a free version of SQL Server, called SQL Express. SQL Express is limited to 1GB of RAM and 10GB of hard disk space, it is also performance limited when you have a large number of users. SQL Express is perfect for most small to mid-sized veterinary clinics, and has good performance up to around 5 workstations. If you have more than 15 years of patient records, or more than 5 workstations, we recommend investing in a dedicated server and Microsoft Small Business Server Premium, which contains the full version of SQL Server for optimum performance. You are still able to run Customer Logic Vet on the Express version of SQL Server, as long as your database size remains below 10GB. As a rough guide, an average 2 vet practice with 10 years’ worth of records uses around 2GB of data, but this will increase sharply if you store a lot of images or detailed medical records.

The requirements for Microsoft SQL vary based on the Operating System it is installed on. Please see http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143506.aspx for details. You will also need up to 10GB of disk space for documents and files.

We recommend a dedicated server running Microsoft SBS 2011 Essentials, or greater, for ease of management and optimal stability of your network.

Internet

In order to provide you with a high level of service, Customer Logic requires remote access to your server through an ADSL, or greater, internet connection using Remote Desktop, or Team Viewer.

Printers

Customer Logic Vet is device agnostic in regards to printers, and will generally work with any Windows compatible printer.

Label Printers

Dymo, Brother and Zebra label printers have all been used successfully, with higher end Zebra printers recommended for busy clinics.

Label printers are mostly limited by availability of labels, so check with your label supplier which labels they support. Customer Logic can generate clinic details on each each, but you will need to have “KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN” and “FOR ANIMAL TREATMENT ONLY” pre-printed on the label in red. Please check with your state legislation for label printer requirements. Label orientation can be landscape, portrait or rotated and label size should be within legal requirements.

Document Printers

Document printers can be any laser or inkjet, wired or wireless print device and will work as long as they are Windows compatible. Customer Logic Vet prints to A4 or A5 by default, so your document printer should support these formats. Reminder letters can be printed on any sized paper, or post cards. Check with your printer supplier if postcards are to be used as not all printers can fit them through the paper tray.
